Mobilizing Youth
Resilience, leadership and belonging
Building resilience and leadership among youth affected by family violence.

Since opening in 2013, La Maison has sheltered French-speaking women and their children who are victims of intimate partner and family violence. Children and teens who are victims or witnesses of such violence can be affected emotionally and cognitively by what they experienced and the resulting family disruption.
Children and youth are likely to reproduce family violence or develop risky behaviours, especially in late adolescence, the transition to adulthood. La Maison developed Mobilizing Youth in response to these issues.
Program objectives
- Increase resilience and prevent risky behaviours among youth in the areas of sexual health, violence and substance use
- Promote youth’s social and professional integration by developing their leadership
- Foster engagement and a sense of belonging to the Franco-Ontarian community through access to French-language resources, awareness of discrimination and training a network of peer helpers
Our partners
The program’s success relies on the quality of its training, thanks to partnerships with the Centre francophone du Grand Toronto, the YMCA, CATIE and Toronto Public Health. Mobilizing Youth received financial support from the City of Toronto and Canadian Heritage.
