Let’s protect our residents and clients together.

At La Maison, confidentiality is a cornerstone of our mission. It ensures the trust of our residents and clients and encourages them to accept our help with peace of mind.

Confidentialité
Why it matters

A close-knit community, and therefore vulnerable.

The French-speaking community of the Greater Toronto Area shares spaces, services and events. This closeness, however friendly, can expose the people we serve to risks of stigma and of being traced. Here are the possible consequences of a breach of confidentiality.

Endangerment

Disclosing one of our addresses, even in passing, can allow an abuser to find a resident and put her, her family and our staff in danger.

What is at stake: vandalism, break-ins, harassment, threats, intimidation, assault, femicide.

Stigmatization

Sharing a resident’s situation, even without ill intent, can reach someone in her circle who will quickly spread it.

What is at stake: marginalization, vulnerability, broken social ties, difficulty integrating, isolation, persecution syndrome.

Loss of credibility

Something said in confidence in a group can be overheard by a former or future client, or by a partner organization, and travel through their network.

What is at stake: loss of trust, damaged reputation, discouraging a woman from seeking help, lack of professionalism.

A commitment from all of us

We kindly ask you to respect the confidentiality of all information related to La Maison. Your commitment helps maintain a safe and welcoming environment for the women and children we support. Together, let’s keep La Maison a trusted refuge.
