How to cover your tracks
When you browse the internet, your activity is recorded: your abuser could trace the sites you’ve visited. Here’s how to erase your visit to our site.
Choose your browser.
If you fear for your safety, browse from a public place instead, such as a public library or an internet café.

- On the left, click Clear browsing data.
- In the drop-down menu, choose All time.

Mozilla Firefox
- Open the Tools menu in the main toolbar.
- Click Clear Recent History.
- Check all the boxes, then click Clear Now.
Safari (Mac)
In the menu bar, under Safari, click Empty Cache.

Browse in a private window.
Private browsing doesn’t keep a history of the pages you visit and ends as soon as you close the window. Note: bookmarks you add and files you download remain saved on the computer.
Google Chrome
Click the menu icon at the top right, then New Incognito window.
Mozilla Firefox
Click Open menu, then New private window.
Safari and Opera
Click File, then New private window.
Internet Explorer
Click Tools, then Safety, and choose InPrivate Browsing.
